Model D86 Protecting a butterfly valve

What does the D86 do?

The Model D86 prevents overtorque damage to valves by eliminating damaging overtorque before it transmits to the valves mechanism. The D86 mounts directly on the valve's 2" AWWA operating nut or shaft. The D86 is designed for severe and submerged duty, and fits easily within a standard 6" valve riser. It's also easy to retrofit on existing applications.

How the D86 works:

The Model D86 will transmit enough torque to safely operate the valve, but will not transmit damaging torque. As soon as too much torque is transmitted, the D86's hardened rollers rise out of their detents (overcoming the force of belleville springs), which effectively prevents damaging torque from being transmitted further. The D86's rollers will then automatically re-engage four evenly spaced detents and continue operation in the same manner until the input torque is lowered to a safe (preset) amount.

How to apply the D86:

The D86 is designed to fit butterfly, ball, resilient seat gate hard seat gate and most other valves. See application table:

AWWA Valve Style
Valve Size
Industry Standard Trip-Torque
Butterfly
3 thru 72 inch
200 lbft
Ball
6 thru 48 inch
200 lbft
Resilient Seat Gate
3 thru 4 inch
150 lbft
6 thru 48 inch
200 lbft
Hard Seat Gate
3 thru 4 inch
150 lbft
6 thru 12 inch
200 lbft

How to mount the D86:

2" AWWA Nut:

The D86 features a 2" AWWA nut and socket. The socket is specifically sized to fit over the valve's existing AWWA nut. Simply remove the existing extension (if applicable), place the D86 over the existing AWWA nut and tighten the two mounting screws. Reinstall the existing extension over the D86's 2" AWWA nut.

Direct shaft-mount:

If your valve does not have a 2" AWWA nut, simply specify the shaft size and ACC will manufacture D86 (direct mount) to accomodate. Simply remove the existing extension (if applicable), place the D86's bore over the existing shaft and tighten the two mounting screws. Reinstall the existing extension over the D86's 2" AWWA nut.

How to specify and order the D86:

A) Simply fill out this form.

-or-

B) Specify the style and size of your valve. Also please specify whether the valve uses a 2" AWWA nut, or if the valve is actuated directly thru a shaft.
